Bologna Traditional Food Tour
Bologna is a beautiful city, rich in historical buildings, piazzas, colonnades, which deserved the appointment at world common heritage by UNESCO. The city features one of the oldest and better preserved medieval historic centres in Europe, filled with life, music, monuments, small restaurants, theatres and artisans’ boutiques.
In the past, Bologna presented 180 towers, and many of them are still visible today. In Italian
tradition, Bologna is called “the Wise”, for second most ancient University in Europe, “the Red” for the red roofs of its houses and “the Rich” for its food offer and tastiness.
The Italian gastronomy, despite being very diverse, points at Emilia-Romagna region as a reference, due to its historical ties with food. Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna is historically a lab for culinary excellence.
Our food and wine tour will escort you in the discovery of Bologna and its history through the classical
dishes of Emilia-Romagna regional tradition. We will begin with a rich appetizer composed by local cured meats and warm, hand-baked bread; then will have classic tortellini or tagliatelle, impossible to miss when in Bologna, and the typical fried meat with cream, parmesan cheese and smoked ham. The meal and the tour end with a slice of cake (or an artisanal gelato) and a high-quality espresso.
This is a walking food and wine tour, ideal for exploring the city with eyes and palate. For our most exigent guests, we also offer the Drink Card, a pass for tasting one or more glasses of wine and/or ale at each of the 5 food stops.

You will taste some of the following specialities in our Bologna Food Tour (according to products availability):
-
Board with local cured meats and cheeses with hand-baked bread:: according to Bolognese
tradition, the meal opens with a wide variety of local cured meats and cheeses. They are served
along with warm bread, hand-baked by the wise hands of professional bakers. -
Bolognese Tortellini:: fresh pasta, stuffed with different types of meat (pork, mortadella and
prosciutto) and parmesan cheese. They are a must-have on traditional Italian Christmas table but
served at any moment of the year: usually, they are served in meat broth, but our guests will have
the opportunity to choose among different options for garnishing their tortellini! -
Bolognese cotoletta: veal meat served with a rich sauce made with cream and parmesan cheese,
and topped with smoked ham. The traditional recipe requires that the meat is fried, then sunk in
meat broth: this is the trick which makes it so incredibly soft. Finally, it is briefly baked in the oven
and served covered in melted cheese and ham. -
Brazadela: traditional cake prepared in a doughnut-shape, it is a very old preparation coming from
peasants’ cuisine. Since its origins, the recipe has been passed from mothers to their kinds, in order to preserve its simplicity and tastiness, for a delicate and unique taste. -
Espresso: it is the inevitable conclusion of every Italian proper meal. We offer it in a historical
coffee shop, accompanied with artisanal whipped cream.
Are you vegetarian? Do not worry! Our partner restaurants will offer you tasty alternatives, in the respect of the local food tradition.
